Off to SDCC 2014

Headed out for SDCC 2014 later today. While I am excited to see Diana Gabaldon and Veronica Roth (not to mention Debra Driza and Lydia Kang, internet writing buds), I am really going for my daughter. This trip happens to be celebrating her 18th b-day! I know, pretty cool right. So she has made our schedule, planned which things are MOST important for her to see.

Now, let's hope we are able to see them. And no, I have NO problem being one of the millions who spends the night in line for Hall H or Ballroom 20 just for the chance that my kidlet can revel in her fandomness. #proudmomofagreatnerd

See you all on the flip slid. And yes, there will be pictures - of course!

Giveaway Winner(s) and The Upcoming Weeks

Happy Sunday all! I can't believe the end of summer is in sight. I am back at work in just over two
weeks, and my daughter is off to college (YIKES) in four. What the heck!

Today I thought I'd announce the giveaway winners and let you all know my focus for the upcoming weeks.

First, the winners:

Congrats to DORIS who won the ebook of Crux by Julie Reece. A big congrats to BETHANY, the grand prize winner of over 38 books and swag!!!! So fun and such a great way to celebrate the scavenger hunt. If you enjoyed it as much as I, be sure to leave a comment and let me know.

Now, the rest of the summer:

The next few weeks are filled with deadlines, Comic Con, birthdays and school stuff. Between it all, I thought I'd get caught up on my book reviews here and on my other blog, An Intense Life. There are so many books I've read lately, ranging from YA to adult to romance to erotica that I would love to share with all of you. Not to mention the countless non-fiction books about gifted children, anxiety disorders, and writing. Time to share my thoughts on it all.
Visit my blogs through out the next two weeks for reviews of it all. And who knows, I need a little bookshelf space so I may be giving a few away!

Finally, a few other announcements and a request for help:

I am planning to release TWO more books this year. Shocking, I know. Not at all certain I can pull it off, but I'm going to try. I'm also going to be speaking and attending as many events as my schedule (writing and personal, not to mention the day job) will allow. It all sounds crazy as I'm writing it, but yeah - that is the plan!
One of my scheduled events is IndieReCon Live. I'll be speaking about the psychology of writing/publishing. Or more accurately, how to find and stay in your happy place no matter where you are on your path. It's an exciting topic for me, and one I'd love your help with. If you are an Indie Author please take a moment and consider being interviewed about your publishing journey to date. If you'd be willing to help me out, complete this form so I can work something out with you. I can't wait to connect and hear your stories.

I finally finished my website. Well, almost finished it. Check it out here: http://christinefonseca.com. Thoughts? I am pleased with it. I still have another site to design and publish for An Intense Life. That one will be the home of my nonfiction projects and services, including coaching (something a lot of you have asked about) and speaking gigs. Not to mention revamping both blogs. Such an exciting time.

Finally, I mentioned that I am working on my speaking and event calendar for 2014-2015 (yes, my life operates on a school schedule!). If YOU would like to host me for an event, be it a workshop, a book chat, a school visit, or something else, just let me know. I'll be posting more information about events and such soon. Until then, just drop me a line via my website.

I guess that's it for now. Have a great week!

Summer Reads Scavenger Hunt Kicks Off!!!

Welcome to my stop on the Summer Reads Scavenger Hunt, taking place from July 16th - 19th

Not sure what the scavenger hunt is all about? Here are the important deets, including prize info:

The Deets:
The Summer Reads Scavenger Hunt will run from TODAY until midnight on SUNDAY (19th July). To enter to win FORTY signed paperbacks by a wide range of authors PLUS $30 worth of Amazon Gift Cards, simply hop around ALL participating stops, collect ALL of the highlighted numbers, add them together, and then go enter the requested details along with your calculated answer in the ENTRY FORM. You can find more information on how the stop works HERE. All stops will direct you to the next place to hop across to.

And don’t worry if you get lost, because the entire list of participating authors can be found HERE.

The fun doesn't end there. My TOP FIVE list (and highlighted number) is below, along with this a special giveaway just for stopping by!

Let's begin:

My Top Five Places for Summertime Reading
  1. THE BEACH! - I am a total beach fiend. Any excuse is my reason for hanging out, smelling the ocean air, and reading a total escapist romance!
  2. THE POOL! - If I can't make it to the beach, the pool is clearly the next best thing, right? Of course it is. Since I read on my iPad a lot, I just need a little protection from the water and the glare.
  3. My Local Coffee Shop (Yeah, that would be Starbucks!) - Anyone who knows me knows that I am a serious LOVER of LATTES! That should probably be in my tagline somewhere. LOL! And in the summer, I love to not only work (write) at my local coffee place, but read. Especially my more serious, thrillers. IDK, something about a thriller and coffee...you know?
  4. Curled up in my favorite chair at home - when in doubt, my favorite comfy chair is always an amazing place to read. Especially when it's late at night and I don't want to disturb my hubby - which happens a lot since I get obsessed over books. LOL!!
  5. Amusement Parks - I know, that sounds strange right? But, honestly, I can read anywhere and everywhere. So when my kids say, "Mom, drive us to Disneyland or SeaWorld" I am much more inclined to say "sure" if I have a great book or two or FIVE cued up and ready to read.

That's my top five list. What is yours? Leave me a comment and enter the giveaway to win the ebook CRUX by Julie Reece. Here is the scoop on Crux:

She should have run. Now, she'll have to fight. Eighteen year old Birdie may be homeless, but she's surviving, that is until a mysterious guy throws money in the air like a crazy game show host and she grabs some with the idea she'll be able to buy dinner that night. In that singular moment, unassuming Birdie becomes the girl in everyone's viewfinder. Thugs want to kill her. Money-guy wants to recruit her. The very hot, very rich and very out of her league Grey Mathews wants to save her. Birdie, though, wants nothing to do with any of them until she realizes fate didn't bring them all together. Her heritage did. Now, with only twenty-one days left, she's got to decide whether to follow in the footsteps of those before her or risk her life for people she's only just met.

Entering the giveaway is EASY! Just complete the rafflecopter form below. I will pick a winner on 6/20.

And now - MY most anticipated new STEAMY OVER 17 read - Unwritten by Chelsea M. Cameron

Children's librarian by day. Romance novelist by night.
British single father.
Someone else is writing this love story...

Blair Walton isn't your average curvaceous tattooed children's librarian. She's also one half of bestselling romance author, Scarlet Rose. Along with her BFF Raine, she spends her nights writing books so steamy, she's afraid they would shock her Southern conservative grandmother to death . . . if she knew about them. That's why she and Raine write in secret.

On deadline for their latest book and out of ideas, Raine suggests (demands) that Blair find a guy and "do some research". Declan Bennet has all the qualifications: He's British, looks fabulous in a suit, has glorious blue eyes and gets bonus points for being an amazing single dad to his adorable son, Drake. But what starts out as a research project quickly turns into something much more. And Blair's not the only one with secrets.

UNWRITTEN released yesterday and I CAN NOT WAIT to read it!

Chelsea M Cameron is a YA/NA New York Times/USA Today Best Selling author from Maine. Lover of things random and ridiculous, Jane Austen/Charlotte and Emily Bronte Fangirl, red velvet cake enthusiast, obsessive tea drinker, vegetarian, former cheerleader and world's worst video gamer. When not writing, she enjoys watching infomercials, singing in the car and tweeting (this one time, she was tweeted by Neil Gaiman). She has a degree in journalism from the University of Maine, Orono that she promptly abandoned to write about the people in her own head. More often than not, these people turn out to be just as weird as she is.

And now - The Architect's most anticipated new read - A Beauty So Beastly by RaShelle Workman:

What happens if beauty is also the beast...

Find out in A Beauty So Beastly. In this exciting new story, RaShelle takes the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast and flips it on its head.

Here's the summary:

“For your vanity, your cruelty, and your cold unfeeling heart, a curse I leave upon you . . .”

The stunning Beatrice Cavanaugh is considered American royalty. She has everything except the ability to love. Cursed on her eighteenth birthday, she becomes more beastly than ever, having a newfound craving for raw meat, and an undeniable yearning for the night. Bitterness is her only companion.

After accusing a maid of stealing, a disgustingly kind and exquisitely handsome guy named Adam shows up asking Beatrice to drop the charges against his mother.

Infuriated by his goodness, Beatrice vows to break him. Destroy him. Make him hurt the way she hurts. So she agrees. On one condition: Adam must take his mother’s place as a servant in the mansion.

Because Beatrice won’t stop until he’s more beastly than she is.

It's available now for only .99cents. Click HERE to purchase.

RaShelle Workman is the author of the popular Blood and Snow series. She loves to reinvent fairy tales that older teens and adults can sink their teeth into. Her stories include kissing, vampires, werewolves, witches, aliens, and more kissing. Sleeping Roses, Exiled, Beguiled, and Dovetailed have foreign rights contracts with a Turkish publisher. RaShelle is also one of the co-founders of Indie Recon LIVE.

And now - Dakota's most anticipated new read - Heart & Soul by Lee Strauss:

Introducing

Heart & Soul

Heart & Soul is the third book in The Minstrel Series

(This is a connected book series - while each book can stand alone, they are best enjoyed in sequence.)

ROMANCE. SUSPENSE. MUSIC. DANGER. HOT BRITISH GUY

She's heartbroken. He's heartless.

Gabriele Baumann-Smith is deliriously in love with her young husband Lennon.
Except, it turns out that Lennon Smith isn't his real name. In fact, he's full of secrets: a cottage on the southern British coast, an old girlfriend and... an identical twin brother.

Callum Jones—not his real name—can't believe his brother's widow came to England. He'd warned Mick—Lennon—that an inheritance could put the girl's life in danger, and he was right.

“Mrs. Smith” is the last thing Callum needs to worry about right now. She's beautiful, sure, takes his breath away at times. But when she looks at him, who does she see?

Gabriele's heart is battered and bruised. Can one brother fix what the other left behind? And will they live long enough to find out?

BUZZ for Heart & Soul

"...this took a turn for the spy/thriller genre, which surprised me, but still carried the strong romantic flavor and wonderful accompanying music, like the first two books. I think this is a great series and would recommend it to contemporary romance fans." Denise Jaden, author of Foreign Exchange

"Another great book by Lee! This one had action, wit and a forbidden love! Love the characters and their interaction with each other! Can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!" Tressa Sager, Amazon reviewer

"I don't want to give away what the danger is, but suffice it to say, it's a real and plausible threat. Gabrielle is a good leading lady. She doesn't back down from anything or anyone in this book, but she's still vulnerable, making her well-rounded and likable." J Harrell, Amazon reviewer

Heart & Soul in Print

The Music fromThe Minstrel Series Volume 3 Heart & Soul

Featuring the author's daughter, Tasia Strauss!

Lee Strauss' thoughts on The Minstrel Series and Heart & Soul:

"My musician husband and I just randomly started talking about the idea of working on a project together - wouldn't it be great if we could collaborate and merge our two artistic worlds? Writing and Music? That was the seed that started the muse talking, and soon afterward The Minstrel Series was born!

For Heart & Soul, I knew I wanted to move the series from Germany to England (next to Ireland and Boston!) and that I needed a small coastal town not far from London. I used Google Earth to examine the British coastline to search for the perfect town and found it in Emsworth. Living in Germany part-time has its advantages and one of them is its proximity to England. My husband and I did a quick five day research trip. (It also came in handy for the next book, a Christmas novella set in London - stay tuned!)

Because of the musical aspect of this series, I'm always on the prowl for songs and singers. My connection to the singer-songwriter world via my musical husband has been a big advantage. My husband's musical genes have also been down to our kids, so it's exciting to involve my daughter Tasia in the project to be the singing voice of Gabriele."

Click HERE to read the first chapter of Heart & Soul.

**One of the entry options will ask a question from the above chapter.

About The Minstrel Series:

The Minstrel Series is a collection of contemporary romance novels set in the singer/songwriter world. The books are companion novels, with shared settings and characters, but each is a complete stand-alone story with a HEA (happily ever after) and no cliffhangers!

The books include MP3 links to original music by talented Indie Artists, so you can hear the characters sing!

#1     Sun & Moon
#2     Flesh & Bone
#3     Heart & Soul
#3.5  Peace & Goodwill (Christmas Novella coming Fall 2014)

It also has its own FACEBOOK (link) page and its own BANDCAMP (link) page where you can listen to the original music associated with the books. Albums are also available on AMAZON.

About Lee Strauss:

Lee Strauss is the author of The Minstrel Series (contemporary romance), The Perception Series (young adult dystopian) and young adult historical fiction. She is the married mother of four grown children, three boys and a girl, and divides her time between British Columbia, Canada and Dresden, Germany. When she's not writing or reading she likes to cycle, hike and do yoga. She enjoys traveling (but not jet lag >:0), soy lattes, red wine and dark chocolate.
