ROOMIES by Sara Zarr and Tara Altebrando: A Bookanista Review

Happy Thursday all! As you can likely tell by my erratic posting schedule, I am not in a routine at all of late. Really, it's because of some tech problems (WiFi related), traveling, and NaNo. The biggest reason for the spotty posts though - ANEMIA! That's right, I've been a bad girl and have not been watching my iron levels. And as a result I am practically comatose every night. But, I am taking my iron again, and eating nothing but iron rich foods. I should be back to normal in no time...what ever that means.

In the meantime, it's back to another amazing review. On tap for today: ROOMIES by the ever-spectacular Sara Zarr and Tara Altebrando. I am so excited about this book. But before I get into that, check out the other Bookanista posts:
On to my review -

About ROOMIES by Sara Zarr and Tara Altebrando (12/24/13)
The countdown to college has begun.

When Elizabeth receives her freshman-year roommate assignment at the beginning of summer, she shoots off an email to coordinate the basics: TV, microwave, mini-fridge. She can't wait to escape her New Jersey beach town, and her mom, and start life over in California.

The first note to Lauren in San Francisco comes as a surprise; she had requested a single. But if Lauren's learned anything from being the oldest of six, it's that you can't always get what you want, especially when what you want is privacy.

Soon the girls are emailing back and forth, sharing secrets even though they've never met. With family relationships and childhood friendships strained by change, it suddenly seems that the only people Elizabeth and Lauren can rely on are the complicated new boys in their lives...and each other.

With humor and heart, Sara Zarr, National Book Award finalist for Story of a Girl, and Tara Altebrando, acclaimed author of The Pursuit of Happiness, join forces for a novel about that time after high school, when everything feels like it's ending just as it's beginning.

Why I liked it:
I don't even know where to start with this. Maybe it's because my oldest is currently filling out applications for college. Or maybe it's because I am in a state of transition in some friendships and such. Whatever the case, I just know I LOVED this book so much. I loved the voice of the characters, getting to know their lives, and seeing that time of life - a time filled with endings and beginnings, tears and smiles; a time when all you know is that EVERYTHING is in a state of change. I remember that time in my own life, remember how alive I felt...
THAT is what this book captures. It is simple and brilliant. A must read, to be certain.

Check it out on Amazon and other fine retailers!

    It's Release Day!

Wow! This post was a long time coming. My 6th novel (and 17th book), OUTBREAK, book #2 in the Solomon Experiments, is officially out day.

This is a special release for me. I had struggled to find my fiction mojo after my last book. Related to what was going on in my personal life and some residual feelings about my mother's death, it took me nearly 2 years to reconnect with my inner artist. The struggle was worth it, though, as I figured out some things about myself as an artist that I needed.

Now, I hope all of you will enjoy the book as much as I've enjoyed writing it.

OUTBREAK is the continuing story of Dakota, an 18 year old girl wrestling with her new awareness of abilities that make her the target of a black ops group. Here is a little more about the story:

Dakota never thought she’d crave her old life in Boresville. Not until the Creator’s assassins came and took everything, everyone, she cared about—all except for David. He’s the only thing she has left, and he wants he…

Collide and Transcend in Audio Format

Wow - it has too long since my last post! A lot has happened over the past few months. First, I've decided to re-launch my entire backlist. What does this mean? New covers, new interiors, and, in some cases, new and expanded stories. It also means releasing the books in audiobook format. Audiobooks are something I've wanted to do for a while. And now it is finally happening.

In December, I released the audiobook formats of Transcend and Collide - each with new covers and new interiors in the digital and print versions. I plan on revealing the new covers for the rest of the Solomon Experiment series (the sequels to Collide) later this month, with the actual books coming in late Feb and March/April.

In Spring, I will begin the re-launch of the Requiem series, including significantly expanded stories for books 2 and 3, new covers, new titles and audiobook formats.

I don't plan on only re-releasing books in 2016. In addition to the two new books in the Solomon Experiments, I ha…
