On to my Bookanista Interview with Lisa and Laura Roecker:

CF: Congrats on your Liar Society series. Can you tell me a little about the series?
LLR: We're really proud of the final book in the series so as bittersweet as it sometimes feels to say goodbye to Kate and Liam and Seth (oh Seth!) and Bradley, it feels right. We've had so much fun with the series but until we finished the last, it didn't quite feel complete. Now it does!
CF: Is there one book you like more than any of the others? Was one harder to write than the others?
LLR: THE LIES THAT BIND was probably the most challenging for us to write. Series are hard! We had to learn how to welcome readers who weren't familiar with the series while at the same time not bore anyone to death. THE LIAR SOCIETY obviously has a special place in our hearts because it was our baby out in the world for the first time. THIRD LIE'S THE CHARM though might have to be our favorite. We're doing everything we wanted in one book so it's super-fun.
CF: What is the best thing about being writing sisters? The hardest?
LLR: The best part about writing together is having someone to talk to ALL THE TIME who understands. The publishing world is such a unique place. We can't imagine not sharing that with each other. Shipping a broken document off to the other person to fix is pretty fun too. The hardest is always feeling like you're letting someone down. We all have our hangups as writers, but we have to share them with each other. If one of us misses a deadline or writes a junky chapter, we feel completely responsible. Pressure, baby!
CF: Now that you have been writing for a while, what advice would you have for authors today?
LLR: Take your time and edit. Books aren't going anywhere and your idea will never be stolen out from under you. You might feel the pressure of the clock, but slow down and get it right. Once your book is out there, there's really no getting it back.

CF: What are your opinions about the changing industry - what are you most excited about? Most concerned about?
LLRIt's a really cool time to be a writer and a reader. Everything is changing and it's fascinating to be in the mix of it. We are most excited about the interactive potential of e-books. We know kids live in a digital world so why not embrace it? Sure there will ALWAYS be a need for paper books, but e-books are so accessible. We're concerned about the saturated market. There is a whole lot out there and we feel a bit lost at times.

CF: And now - a little fun: What new title are you most excited to read?
LLR: We've already had a sneak peek, but we're SUPER excited for Joy Preble's latest THE SWEET DEAD LIFE which will be out this May.

CF: Which newer author are you excited about?
LLR: We are SO excited about Loretta Nyhan and Suzanne Hayes. They have a co-written book I'LL BE SEEING YOU coming out in May and they each have separate projects out this Spring. We get excited to read pretty much anything these talented ladies come up with.

CF: What Non-Writing things have you two been up to?
LLRWorking day jobs, raising families and overdosing on Pinterest. That pretty much sums up our lives.

CF: Anything else you'd like to share?
LLR: If you're up for a summer read, THIS IS W.A.R. releases July 2nd through Soho Press. Think girls, a country club, powerful families and revenge

The Liar Society series is a fabulous series - a true MUST READ!!! Check it out today!

The Liar Society
Kate Lowry didn't think dead best friends could send e-mails. But when she gets an e-mail from Grace, she’s not so sure.
To: KateLowry@pemberlybrown.eduSent: Sun 9/14 11:59 PMFrom: GraceLee@pemberlybrown.eduSubject: (no subject)
Kate,I'm here…sort of. Find Cameron.He knows.I shouldn't be writing.Don't tell.They'll hurt you.
Now Kate has no choice but to prove once and for all that Grace’s death was more than just a tragic accident. But secrets haunt the halls of her elite private school. Secrets people will do anything to protect. Even if it means getting rid of the girl trying to solve a murder...
The Lies That Bind
Just when Kate Lowry thought she had life at elite private school Pemberly Brown figured out, she cracks open a fortune cookie to find a message from her best friend Grace--who's supposed to be dead.
Another Sister Gone
A classmate has gone missing, and Kate soon realizes that the disappearance is tied to the secret societies that rule her private school. Her best friend died for their secrets, and there's no way she'll let them get away with it twice. It's up to quirky outsider Kate to get some answers, but in a school where every answer leads to more questions and nothing's as it seems, who can she trust?

Third Lie's the Charm (releasing Dec 2013)
New friend into old, the bond of the Sisterhood will never grow cold.
Life at Pemberly Brown is a whirlwind for Kate Lowry. Determined to finally destroy the secret society responsible for her best friend Grace’s death, Kate joins the Sisterhood hoping to go all Trojan Horse on their asses. But the night of her initiation another student at Pemberly Brown dies in what looks like tragic accident.
Kate knows better.
Kate and her faithful ginger, Seth Allen, immediately uncover a connection to the boy’s death and the secret societies that rule Pemberly Brown. But it’s not until Kate begins receiving pages from Grace’s old journal that she begins to piece together what really happened the night she died and how it connects to Pemberly Brown’s most recent tragedy.
Meanwhile, Kate’s ex-boyfriend Liam is following her around like an angry guard dog and she’s falling hard for the mysterious Bradley Farrow. Both boys are tied up in the mystery that surrounds Pemberly Brown, but only one of them can truly be trusted.
In this chilling conclusion to The Liar Society series Kate will fight to save her school from the evil that lurks beneath its hallowed halls. But will her quest destroy her or finally lead her to true love? She can only hope her third lie’s the charm.
AHH!!! Can't wait for this final book!

  1. Awesome interview. Great advice to take your time editing. I bought the first two books for my Nook and so need to read them. When I interviewed Lisa and Laura, everyone who read The Liar Society raved about it.

  2. Great interview, girls! I own and have read LIAR SOCIETY and THE LIES THAT BIND and loved them both!
Can't wait for THIRD LIE'S THE CHARM and W.A.R.!!! Plus, I finally got to meet Lisa and Laura at Changing Hands bookstore in Arizona last fall - such fun! They're gorgeous, of course. :-)
