To Resolve or Not To Resolve...

Wow! We made it through another year. I just can't believe how fast 2012 zoomed past. And what a year it was, too. So many highs. Lows I never anticipated. And change...a TON of change.

Most years I don't write resolutions. But I do write goals. Many goals. In 2010, one of  my hardest years by far, I wrote many goals and used 12/31 to "cleanse" out the hard aspects of 2010 and prepare myself to move forward. In 2011, I did nothing - no resolutions, no goals. I has riding a holiday high and decided to just go with it. The results were not exactly what I wanted.

Though, they were probably exactly what I needed.

I spent the year dealing with life as it came - a good thing. And not.

This year, I am again making a decision not to write resolutions. But I will write goals. And I will purge away the past.

I've decided to have a focus for the year, and align my goals with that focus. Having spent the better part of the last half of 2012 in a position of having to self-analyze and take stock, I find myself in a position of clarity that has been different from previous years.

This is not to say it is a "pretty" clarity - it is not. It is messy, ugly and painful. But it is all me. I have come to terms with some aspects of my life that need changing. And I have developed a sort of road map to get there. This map includes my goals - goals in the areas of my writing life, my work (read "day-job") life, and in my personal life. It's my hope that the goals will help with the clarity and focus I will undoubtedly need in order to make the progress I am hoping for this year.

Later this week, I will share a few of my plans with all of you. Until then, I plan to spend the rest of today clarifying the goals even more, committing them to paper and tucking them away in a safe place. Then I will ring in the New Year playing games with the kids as I typically do.

I wish all of you a fabulous and SAFE night. What will you do for 2013? Make resolutions? Set goals? None of the above?

As the New Year Approaches

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful few days. I did. Good company, good food and much needed R&R. It was a wonderful break.

Today, Dec 27, I find myself in a reflective mood, not unusual for me in general, and for this time of year - very normal. You see, there are very few things I am superstitious about...starting the new year with a clean slate is one of them. For the next several days, as we march ever-closer to 2013, I will spend my time releasing the hurts of 2012, cleaning my "house" both literally and figuratively, reflecting on my current path, and forging new goals. It is a ritual I go through every year, dating back to my childhood. There is just something about the renewal of a New Year that fills me with hope...a hope that, when unguarded, seems to filter through my fingertips as the year progresses.

This year as a lesson in extremes. Not the first lesson, and I am certain not the last. This year saw the "birth" of my fiction career with my first novel, the sale of more books, and a change in careers in my "other" life. It also brought some of the hardest internal struggles I've ever faced, grief and pain as a dealt with a few losses, and challenges that brought me to my knees more than once.

A true lesson in extremes. And yet, like most things, it doesn't seem so bad from this vantage point.

I am thankful for the year, the growth, the opportunities. I am thankful for some clarity that has come as a result of the trials. And, most importantly, I am optimistic about things to come.

As the days race on, I will be cleaning, organizing, and processing the 365 days that have passed. I will glean from them what I can before I march into a new future.

That is my plan, at least.
What is yours?

Oh! And for those asking...yes, I am back in the cave as well...and writing. Man it feels good.

Have a happy and health New Year!

Blog Tour Stop - Transcender

Hops

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I am participating in a Blog Tour today for Vicky Savage's Transcender. Here is a little bit about the book:

When a freak lightning storm turns terrifying, Jaden Beckett, a typical Connecticut teenager, is suddenly shifted into a parallel existence where she finds herself a member of the ruling family in a counterpart of America on a strange alternate version of earth--one filled with hidden dangers, political intrigue, remarkable creatures, and forbidden romance.
 And the Author:

Born and raised at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Vicky Savage became irresistibly enchanted by the lure of the ocean when she attended law school in Florida. She practiced law for several years before taking time off to raise her two children. She lives on the water on the west coast of Florida with her husband, son, and two dogs. Ms. Savage recently completed Book 2 of the Transcender Trilogy, Streaming Stars, which will be released in 2012.

Hullabaloos, Blog Chains and Requiem

Happy Wednesday All! Time for another Blog Chain round. Cole started this round and asked the following:

Christmas is a time of gift giving. If you could gift aspiring authors with one piece of advice, what would it be?

Man, this is a great one! For me...it's persistence. There is nothing easy about this business. Nothing. It's more than writing great stories, perfecting the craft and selling your work. It's more than editing and marketing. It is just more. And to achieve your dreams, it takes work, and persistence. LOADS of it!

To hear a little more advice, check out Sandra's from yesterday, and Katrina's post tomorrow.

And since we are talking about gifts and all...It is ALSO TIME FOR TODAY'S #HULLABALOO

We are down the last couple of days of the giveaway, and I really wanted to give all of you something from my collection of items...
But before I get to that, check out ALL of the giveaways today...they just get better and better:

For Hullabaloo Day #10, I am giving away SIGNED COPIES of my Requiem Series, including the hardback for LACRIMOSA, the paperback for LIBERA ME and the paperback for DOMINUS (when it released in 2013). Here are what some people are saying about the series:

"LACRIMOSA reaches out, grabs readers by the heart, and takes them on an emotional journey from the first page to the last. The last novel you'll need to read to understand true sacrifice." ~ Elana Johnson, Author of Possession

"An emotional ride that kept me guessing at every turn, dip, and upside down whirl. This novel will have you gripping your e-reader until your fingers are white. Love, sacrifice, redemption, damnation, hot angels and demons, it has it all and so much more!" - Heather McCorkle, Author of To Ride A Puca

Hullabaloos and The Last Year

Whew! Only a few more days until the BIG giveaway for the Amazon Giftcard. And still so many fabulous prizes. Just check it out:

For Hullabaloo Day #9, I am giving away the first three books in the LAST YEAR series by Trisha Leigh - in print and autographed! Here is a bit about book one, Whispers in Autumn:
In 2015, a race of alien Others conquered Earth. They enslaved humanity not by force, but through an aggressive mind control that turned people into contented, unquestioning robots. Except sixteen-year-old Althea isn’t content at all, and she doesn’t need the mysterious note inside her locket to tell her she’s Something Else. It also warns her to trust no one, so she hides the pieces that make her different, even though it means being alone. The autumn she meets Lucas, everything changes. Althea and Lucas are immune to the alien mind control, and together they search for the reason why. What they uncover is a stunning truth the Others never anticipated, one with the potential to free the brainwashed human race. It’s not who they are that makes them special, but what. And what they are is a threat. One the Others are determined to eliminate for good.

Hullabaloos and the Chosen

Whew! Here we are, starting the last week of the holiday Hullabaloo. The Prizes are growing...So be sure to check out ALL of the giveaways today...they just get better and better:

For Hullabaloo Day #8, I am giving away a SIGNED set of the Chosen series by Denise Grover Swank. This series has been on fire since it's release:
Everything Emma Thompson owns fits in a suitcase she moves from one roach infested motel to another. She and Jake, her five year old son who can see the future, are running from the men intent on taking him. Emma will do anything to protect him even when it means accepting the help of a stranger named Will. Jake insists she needs Will, but Emma’s never needed help before. And even though she’s learned to trust her son, it doesn’t mean she trusts Will. Mercenary Will Davenport lives in the moment. Hauling Emma to South Dakota should have been an easy job, but his employer neglected to tell him about Emma’s freaky son and the gunmen hot on her trail. Instinct tells him this job is trouble, but nothing can prepare him for Jake’s proclamation that Will is The Chosen One, who must protect Emma from the men hunting her power. A power she doesn't know she has. Will protects Emma and Jake on a cross-country chase from the men pursuing them, while struggling with memories from his past, his apprehension of Jake, and his growing attraction to Emma. Will’s overwhelming urge to protect Emma surprises him, especially since it has nothing to do with his paycheck and possibly everything to do with the tattoo Jake branded on his arm. Rich and powerful men are desperate to capture Emma, and Will must discover why before it's too late.

When a hurricane hits her island home and she wakes up with fins, Yara finds herself tangled up in an underwater world of mysterious merfolk and secretive selkies. Both sides believe Yara can save them by fulfilling a broken promise and opening the sealed gateway to their realm, but they are battling over how it should be done. The selkies want to take her life. The merfolk want something far more precious.

Treygan, the stormy-eyed merman who turned Yara mer, will stop at nothing and sacrifice everything to protect his people—until he falls for Yara. The tides turn as Yara fights to save herself, hundreds of sea creatures, and the merman who has her heart. Hullabaloo and Post Apocalyptic Giveaways

Whew! What a week, right??? I have no idea how to beat this past week. All I can say is we still have SEVEN days of giveaways....
HOLY COW, right?!?

Check out ALL of the giveaways today...it's pretty impressive:

For Hullabaloo Day #6, I am giving away an ebook of GIRL UNDER GLASS by Monica Enderle Pierce:
What do you do when you’re trapped between death and the devil? To protect her young daughter from a madman and a tyrant, Rachel Pryne must trust an enemy—one of the alien warriors who conquered Earth.
It is 2032, the Ohnenrai—Earth’s humanoid alien conquerors—orbit the planet, and Terran reproduction is failing. Rachel, a trained medic, is struggling to protect her seven-year-old daughter, Pearl, from the sexual predation of their penal colony’s leader. Having fathered the girl by rape, he now intends to take her on her eighth birthday, only six weeks away.
Then Rachel finds her unlikely champion—an injured Ohnenrai soldier who appears in her yard one stormy evening. She knows she may be choosing death over the devil in trusting this warrior, but she doesn’t know that her trust, and her DNA, will make her one of the most important and endangered people to ever set foot aboard an Ohnenrai starship.
Equal parts science fiction, suspense, and romance, Girl Under Glass moves from a post-apocalyptic wilderness in the American Pacific Northwest to a high-tech world aboard an alien starship furnished with all the stolen comforts of Earth. Readers meet Rachel Pryne, whose parents' lifelong and life-ending connection to the Ohnenrai has set her upon a path she never wanted to travel. And they're introduced to Ehtishem, an Ohnenrai soldier who exists to save his dying people, but who faces enemies from within and without his own military.
The only possible solution to the Ohnenrai’s extinction lies within Rachel, but all she wants to do is protect her daughter and see Earth’s alien conquerors go straight to hell.

Hullabaloos and Book Release Celebrations!

The excitement of this week really knows no bounds. I means, first it was my cover reveal. Then the surprise online party. And now...
Now I get to wish a VERY LOUD and VERY PUBLIC

HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY for one my very best friends, ALI CROSS and DESTINED.

This books is simply amazing. Here is the Goodreads Blurb:
Choosing is a bad idea, because Desi always makes the wrong one, and sometimes there are no do-overs. Certainly not this time, when all has been lost and Desi can’t even save herself, let alone her friends. For Desi, the hardest thing is letting someone help her, to accept their sacrifice on her behalf. But that’s exactly what she’ll have to do in order to save the worlds from Helena’s destruction.
The goddess of Helheimer, long imprisoned by Desi’s father, Loki, is free at last, and she’s bent on reclaiming what once was hers. The nine worlds will be drawn into war, over Hell, over Earth, with innocent humans meaningless collateral. While Michael and the Gardians of Asgard, along with the golden-armored Valkyrie lead the battle for freedom, it’s Desi who holds the destiny of all the worlds in her hands.
Can she set aside her doubts, once and for all, and claim the gifts that are hers to bear? Can she accept the sacrifice that is made for her and Become all that she was created to be?
Her final choice will define not only her future, but the fate of humankind, forever more.

I was fortunate enough to read an early version of the book and WOW oh WOW. This is the epic end to one of my favorite series. The characters come full circle, there is epic action and strong emotions - everything I want in a great journey. Here is exactly what I said about the book:

In Destined, Ali Cross brings a satisfying end to a series that chronicles the journey through darkness everyone must take in order to not only find themselves, but to find the depth of light that lies within. This story has everything I could want with amazing characters, a strong story-line, and writing that is nothing short of brilliant. An amazing finish to a must-read series about love, redemption and the power of choice.

To celebrate the release and the completion of the series, as well as continue the Holiday Hullabaloo fun, I am giving away a complete AUTOGRAPHED set of her Books in print, Just complete the rafflecopter form for your chance to win. And be sure to check out my post next week as part of the DESTINED tour!

Hullabaloos, Surprise Birthdays, and Elana Johnson...Yes, They Do All Go Together!

I am SO EXCITED for today...maybe even more than I was about my cover reveal yesterday! You know when you plan a surprise party for weeks and weeks, terrified that the person you are trying to surprise is totally gonna find out??? Especially when they are smart and intuitive???

Yea, that is how the last several weeks have been.

See, I wanted to plan out a special surprise for someone who has given so much of herself to readers and writers alike. Someone who asks for little and gives, gives, gives.

She teaches kids about writing, teaches authors how to push through the hard in this business, and works harder than almost anyone I know. She blogs about her trials and tribulations as she forges her own unique path, and is genuine, authentic and fearless in her frank conversations. For me, she has been a friend, a counselor, a mentor, the personal to kick me in the rear when I needed it and an inspiration. She has been that for countless others, too

So, together with Ali Cross, we decided to reach out to some of her friends and all post about her today. And give stuff away - like her books. I mean, what better gift than to give away her books, right???

So today, for my Day #2 of the Holiday Hullabaloo giveaway, we are celebrating ELANA JOHNSON's BIRTHDAY and giving away a complete set of her Books in print, in ebook, and yea...some bonus things too. All you have to do it wish her a happy birthday and fill out the rafflecopter form below. WOO HOO!!!!

For my first day, I am SO EXCITED to combine this giveaway with the reveal of the cover for DOMINUS, the final installment in the Requiem Series. I have to say, this may be my FAV cover so far!

Here is the blurb on Goodreads:
“It’s been six months since my memories returned. Six months since Aydan was again ripped away from me. Six months since I broke a piece of my best friend’s soul.Six months...”
Nesy has found her memories, her life. Now all she wants is to forget and be human. Only human. But fate holds a different destiny. Forced into a war she wants no part of, Nesy is put to the test in ways she never thought possible as she seeks to fix the mistakes she has made. And the mistakes of her former master, Mikayel. Will she be the Sentinal she was destined to be and put an end to the fighting once and for all? Or will she fail and send humanity into slavery?
The future of three worlds depends on the choices, and sacrifices, she must make in this final installment of the Requiem Series.
I can't wait to see what you all think!

Now, before I reveal it - here are a few little facts about the final book in the Requiem Series:
  • DOMINUS is told from the POV's of Lilith and Nesy (Hmm...or is it Nessa? I guess you need to read LIBERA ME to find out...)
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE the evolution of the characters in this book so very much!
  • Be warned - there are a LOT of death in this one! As early as page 30 or so.
  • As described to my publisher, Dominus takes the romance of Lacrimosa, the emotions of Libera Me and wraps it all in some series action!!!
That's really all I can share this early.

And now...what we've all been waiting for. I have to thank the team at Compass Press and CP Designs for this cover. I totally love it!

Well? What do you think? To keep the party going, I am asking everyone to tweet or otherwise spread the word. I am so excited for this! Here is a tweet you can use to help spread the word:

  • Celebrate @chrstinef 's cover reveal for Dominus, the final installment in the #RequiemSeries with a special giveaway #YALitChat #Books #YAbookchat #Teen Http://christinefonseca.com
So, there you go...TWO GREAT THINGS to scream about: The start of the Holiday Hullabaloo giveaway AND a new cover! WOO HOO!!!
