Why Do You Read Blogs?

I know, I are all thinking "Dude! It's the end of July. That's the MIDDLE of the year, not the start of a new year." And yes, that's true. Unless you work in education. See, if you work in schools, your year is inevitably marked by the school calendar. And in Temecula, CA, that means August always starts a new year.

Now, I've worked in education for more than 15 years, so I am completely entrenched in the "New Year" feeling that always comes as July ends and August begins - a feeling marked by excitement (new clothes, the routine of the year), sadness (does anyone ever really want to give up summer), and apprehension (what will the year bring).

This year is no different (even though my 'summer' was much much shorter with my new job).

The start of a new school year is also marked with the need to clean and reorganize, set new goals, and clarify my purpose (Wow, really does sound like New Year's Day, doesn't it). So, it is in that vain that I bring this post...

I've been thinking a lot about why I blog and whether or not it is just a bunch of static in an already noisy world. Much of the time I think it is. And that is NOT what I'm about. At all.

My life has always been dedicated to bringing people user-friendly information that is both practical and entertaining. It's been about sharing pieces of myself in the hopes that my experiences can help others. Whether I am working with kids or families, developing programs or giving trainings, lecturing or writing, my purpose has been the same.

I don't feel my blog has always stayed focused on that point. Yes, I try to stay authentic. But many times I think my posts are just noise.

Now, before you going thinking this post is about my stepping away from blogging completely, or me looking to a pep talk from all of you...that isn't what this is about.

No, I just want to get back on track with my blogging - all of my blogging (here and in guest posts) and make certain I am moving forward in the right direction...

So, what does this have to do with anything?

Well, I am going to continue blogging on a M, W, F basis. And I am going to do my best to bring fresh, meaningful content to each post. But I need your help to do it.

Why do you read blogs? What kind of content do you hope to find? Writing advice? Book reviews? Real life anecdotes about this journey of writing and publishing? Teasers on upcoming projects? What?

I have an idea of what I want to bring to this blog in the months to come, but I always want to hear from all of you; and since the readership of my blog has changed a bit since I first started, yea....I need your input.

So please take a minute to leave me a comment and tell me what you look for in a blog and the content.

I appreciate your insight and your time!

Fabulous Friday... and an Update

Happy Friday everyone. Thought I'd pop out the cave long enough to share some news.

On the Nonfiction Front, I have a NEW TITLE for my upcoming book on resiliency for girls:

A Girl's Guide to Redefining Normal: Finding Your Place in a Mixed-Up World

This book is near and dear to my heart, as my girls are the exact audience for the book. Here's a little more about it:

Finding your unique voice in a noisy world can be hard. Very hard. But not if you have a great guide. A Girl's Guide to Redefining Normal: Finding Your Place in a Mixed-Up World" is a must read for girls in grades 7–10 as they enter the tumultuous world of adolescence. Packed with fun worksheets and quizzes, as well as stories from older girls and women, A Girl's Guide to Redefining Normal covers everything a teenage girl needs to know on the journey toward her own identity. Proven strategies for dealing with stress management, relational aggression, being safe online, navigating the changing mother-daughter relationship, and more make this the ultimate guide for any girl to get through the teen years and discover her unique point of view in the world.

The release date has officially been moved up to April 1, 2013. I am SO SO EXCITED!

Many of you have helped with the project in some way, making this one of my favorite things to work on so far.

Look for the book on Goodreads soon!

In the fiction front, things are fabulous also. TRANSCEND is getting a final edit in preparation for publication. Who knows, its possible that may release a tad early too.
LIBERA ME may kill me, but early feedback indicates that the series is just getting better and better. That's certainly my goal!
If you want to get in on any of the launch activities for either book, be sure to fill out the form below.

I guess that's it for now. Back into the cave I go. More exciting things on the horizon!

But, in honor of her celebration I thought I'd give more stuff away. (Who doesn't like that, right?)

First, a Goodreads giveaway celebrating the release of the paperback version of Lacrimosa is underway for the next month. This one is only available for residents of the US, but I am giving away 8 copies of the book--eight SIGNED copies! Check it out:

Manic Monday...Tuesday...Weds...

As most of you guys know, I am knee-deep in edits for THREE separate projects. Exciting - YES. Cray-cray - BEYOND!
The good news is, I have turned in one round of edits for one off the projects. One more round to go.
More good news, although project number two is sort of a hot is better than I had thought originally. And I am on track to finishing those edits this week. Or so.
So, all is good.
As most of you also know, I must edit to music. So, I thought I'd bring you a little of what I've been listening to during edits -

And a little more -

Love the masks and theme of this much.

And finally -

Yes, there has been a classical music theme of late.

See ya later in the week, when I come out from the cave. Enjoy!

Holy Cow...Where Did the Week Go???

Hey all! Happy Friday. So sorry I have been incognito all week. I have been buried ... I mean BURIED... at work, in edits, with life. I hadn't intended on a bloggy vacay. OOPS!

I should be back to normal posting next week.

In the meantime, I leave you with the newest released quote from Transcend:

“Ien stopped her voice with more kisses, more promises of a world filled with only them.”

Celebrate INDIEpendence with FREE books on Amazon!

I am SO DANG EXCITED to announce that Amazon has BOTH Dies Irae and Mea Culpa for FREE. The novellas in the Requiem series act as bridges between the novels. Here is a little about them:

"The beauty of the words will tempt you, the tragedy of the story will break you, and the love, woven throughout like music through the trees, will haunt you for days afterward. Dies Irae promises a tale unlike any you've read before." ~Ali Cross, Author of BECOME
This is the tragic tale of Mikayel and Azzaziel, good and evil, sacrifice and revenge. Set more than 3000 years before LACRIMOSA, it explains the backstory of these two characters and the impact of their story on future events. Here is what readers are saying:

This tells Zane story, and takes place right after LACRIMOSA ends. It explains a lingering question...or does it. You decide; after you read the next novel in the series, LIBERA ME, set to release in October. Here's what readers are saying:

"It's poetic and lyrical, it is poetic, it possesses your soul. Another piece of amazing writing." ~ A Kids Review

I would love for you to download the books for yourself and check out the world of Celestium, and my take on angels and demons, good and evil, love and revenge.

Have a great one!

Happy INDIEpendence Day!

Happy Monday! I am so excited to be part of the firsst annual INDIEpendence Day Blog Fest celebrating small press and indie authors.

Today I thought I would scream my praises for The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines. I discovered this book through one of my favorite groups on Goodreads, Never Too Old for YA Books. Man oh man, what an amazing discovery.

Here's the amazon blurb:
Being the good girl isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Ashton Gray has grown weary of playing the part to please her parents, and to be worthy of the town’s prince charming, Sawyer Vincent. Maybe That’s why she’s found herself spending time with Sawyer’s cousin, Beau, while he’s away for the summer camping with his family. Beau is nothing like her perfect boyfriend. He’s the sexiest guy she’s ever seen, dangerous in ways she’s only day dreamed about, and the one guy she should stay away from.
Beau never envied Sawyer his loving parents, his big nice home, or his position as quarterback. He loves him like a brother. Which is why he's tried everything in his power to keep his distance from Sawyer’s girlfriend. Even if he has loved her since the age of five, Ashton is Sawyer’s girl, so therefore she’s off limits. But when Sawyer leaves for the summer, Ashton, the one girl Beau would move Heaven and Earth for, decides she wants to get into trouble. Stabbing the one person who’s always accepted him and stood by him in the back, is the cost of finally holding Ashton Gray in his arms. Is she worth losing his cousin over?.... Hell Yeah.

My take:
I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. Sexy, Hot, Fun - it was a perfect summer read for me. Abbi did a great job with the characters, plot development, and pacing. I was hooked from the first page and breezed through it.

But don't take my word for it...go and check out the book for yourself. I haven't read the sequel, THE VINCENT BROTHERS, yet. But you can bet I will!

Now that I've sung my praises, check out what the other Blog Fest peeps are talking about:

What Indie/Small press books are you reading?
