Holy WOW!

Wow. Just Wow. The outpouring of support, encouragement, excitement and general good will for the cover reveal of TRANSCEND was nothing short of amazing. I am so deeply touched that I just had to post a quick post and say thank you.

As I stated during the week, this is a special book to me. Not only once it written as an outpouring of grief after my mother's death (and no, the creeptastic mom in the story is NOT my own!), but this particular story forced me to dig deep as an author - in terms of structure, storytelling, setting, character development, everything. I sincerely have no idea if people will like it, but at least I know they will give it a try...at least based on your reactions to the cover.

I extended the giveaway through the weekend, to give people another chance to enter. And since you're here, entering, I thought I would share a couple of quotes from TRANSCEND:

My thoughts are quiet, but not calm. There is a terror on the edge of the silence, a terror fed by my burning flesh and the stench of death.
Forever. He carved the word into his soul. Kiera was his forever, deformity or no deformity.

I'd love to keep the excitement going throughout the weekend - you can help by tweeting, changing your avatar to the cover or adding the book to your Goodreads TBR list. You can even add the countdown widget seen on the left sidebar.

And be sure to enter the giveaway below while you can. Be the FIRST to read the story and see my thoughts throughout.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Thank you again for all of your support. I wish I could scoop you all up in a big hug!!!

Come back Monday as I get to share a little love for an Indie/Small Press author before hiding back in my editorial cave to finish getting ready for two launches this fall! EEP!

IT"S HERE!!!!!!!!! The Cover to TRANSCEND!!!

WOO HOO!!!! The day is here! The one I have been leading up to all week. The day I reveal the cover to Transcend.

But first - a little more about the story:

All seventeen-year-old composer Ien Montgomery desires is an escape from his family's rigid expectations for his life; someone to inspire his music. When he meets a beautiful violin-prodigy, Kiera McDougal, his life music takes on new life. With her, he imagines a future outside of his parents’ control. That is, until a horrible accident tears them apart. Sent to die in a sanatorium, Ien’s obsession for Kiera grows unbearable. Tortured by thoughts he can’t escape and the truth of his monstrous disfigurement, he flees, desperate to exact revenge on the people that ruined his life – his parents. But, vengeance is empty. Betrayed by those closest to him, Ien discovers that the price for his happiness may be his sanity.
And my first author endorsement from the author of Treasured Lies, Michelle McLean:
This Phantom of the Opera-inspired tale is hauntingly dark and achingly beautiful. A story of love, loss, and obsession set against the decadent backdrop of historic New York that sucked me in and wouldn't let go, from the first page until long after I'd finished. Ien still haunts my dreams...

And now...what we've all been waiting for. I have to thank the team at Compass Press and CP Designs for this cover. To say it is stunning is an understatement!

Well? What do you think? To keep the party going, I am asking everyone to tweet, participate in the blogfest and share your own secrets, or otherwise spread the word. I am so excited for this! Here are a couple of tweets you can use to help spread the word:

Parties, Swag and More - What Will I Reveal Today?

We are almost there - almost ready to reveal the cover of Transcend!

For today, I thought I'd share a little taste of the bookish swag we have put together for this launch. And a little about the party. Because after all, what's a launch without a party, right???

The swag for this launch includes the typical bookmark, magnet, bookish fun. But I also have something very special planned - something that is included in this giveaway, and will be included for those who preorder the book with me, as well as those who buy the book (digital or print) in the first week.

What is it, you ask?

Well, Transcend is definitely a psychological thriller of the classic creptastic type. But, it is also a love story. Ien and Kiera's story. So, I thought it would be great to share with readers the love letters Ien has sent to Kiera throughout the story. While they are referenced in the book, readers only get to actually read one of them...until now. I convinced Ien to share five of his love letters to Kiera with readers. And these are put together in a nice little packet for a fortunate few during the first weeks of the launch.

EEP!!!!

Which brings me to the party fun - I really LOVE phantom. And I REALLY REALLY love this story! So, I am madly putting together a little Masquerade-inspired party together to launch the book. I am not certain of the details yet, but you can expect masks to be involved. Stay tuned for more information.

And for those who don't live near San Diego or OC (I will likely do launch events in both locales), I am planning some EPIC virtual launch activities on Facebook, Twitter, the Blogoverse and Goodreads. This is really gonna be epic!

And now, before I leave you, a reader asked me what violin music inspired the storyline. The first was the theme from Schindler's list. There were many other violin solos which I will talk about as we get closer to September,  but for now I'll leave you with a great version of the solo:

Be sure to come back tomorrow for the big reveal, and keep entering the giveaway for your chance to win the annotated galley, Ien's letters and more!!! Just fill out the form below.

The Girls of Transcend Dish a Little Dirt

Here we are at Day 3 of my special week of reveals. The girls of Transcend are up today - and man, keeping them in check was a bit of a challenge. They asked to do a group interview. In fact, they were quite insistent about it. So, I will introduce you to Kiera, Jenna, Sister Agnes, and Mrs. Katherine Montgomery. And then I will attempt to keep them focused for a little interview (wish me luck)!

Katherine Montgomery - She is the matriarch of the Montgomery family and mother to Ien and Erik. Consumed with the need to maintain their elevated status, she is the true driving force behind the family. Nothing happens without her direct knowledge and consent.

Sister Anne - She leads a simple life, far removed from New York's aristocracy. To her honesty and love are the only things that matter.

Jenna Avery - Jenna works in the Montgomery household. Born into her current status, she knows that her place will always be that of servant. She is close friends with Ien and knows all of the family secrets.

Kiera McDougal - Kiera is the only daughter to the McDougal estate. Although her status is not nearly as high as the Montgomery's, Kiera is expected to marry well and secure her family's fortune. Never mind her own desires or dreams.

As I mentioned earlier, the ladies wanted to sit down in a group and talk about their fantasies and wishes. Personally, I think this was all Katherine's idea - just to get a little intel on Kiera. But you be the judge:
Me - Okay ladies. Time for you to dish and tell me your deepest, darkest secrets or fantasies. Just remember, I don't want to give away any spoilers about the story. Who's first?
{complete silence as everyone looks to Katherine.}
Katherine - I'll start. I just want my family's legacy to continue. That is all I've ever wanted.
Kiera - But at what cost? Isn't the happiness of your boys more important.
Katherine - Happiness won't guarantee their future, Miss McDougal. Which is why...{redacted the response - too many spoilers}
Kiera - But...
{Sister Agnes quiets Kiera}
Sister Agnes - I think all of us want a secure future, Mrs. Montgomery. We just have different ideas how to achieve that, and what that means.
Me - Jenna, you're very quiet. What do you wish for?
Jenna - It's best for me not to say, ma'am. My place is to support the household. And I am happy to do it.
Katherine - Thank you Jenna. She, at least, understands her place.
{Katherine glares at Kiera}
Me - Okay. Um...I think that is all for now. We'll bring you guys back for another interview in September when the book is released.

And there you have it, the girls of Transcend. And yes, they are a bit catty! Just wait until they all get together in the book! Tomorrow I will be dishing a little about the launch activities for Transcend. And remember, Friday is the BIG REVEAL!

In the meantime, be sure to enter the giveaway celebrating the release of Transcend. It is not to be missed!

Just fill out the form below.

The Boys of Transcend Share A Little Too Much...

Here we are at Day 2 of my special week of reveals. Today I'm introducing the boys of Transcend - Ien, James, Erik and Mr. John Montgomery. I asked each one of these characters to share one thing today - a fantasy or secret wish. Now, I will admit, I had to edit their answers a bit, redacting a few things. These guys were just too willing to reveal far too much about the story. Darn blabbermouths! But, hopefully what I left will work:

John Montgomery - He is Ien and Erik's father, and head of one of the most prestigious families in 19th century New York. Determined to maintain his family's status, Mr. Montgomery will do anything - and I mean ANYTHING - to keep the reputations of his boys above repute. When I asked him to share a fantasy, a wish, he chuckled and, well, here was the conversation:
John - "We don't indulge in fantasy in our family."
Me - "But if you did-"
John - "We don't."
Me - "But-"
John - "Okay, fine. If I did indulge in such nonsense, I guess I would wish for a different *************" {I had to redact the rest - it was filled with spoilers!}
Erik Montgomery - Erik is the oldest son to John, and Ien's brother. He was the heir to the family fortune, the family business. Until... {Yep, not spilling that much...}
Erik's answer to the question of his secret wish or fantasy was simple:
I just want to live. Really live. And....{Dang these guys really can't keep secrets}
James Thoburn III - James is Ien's best friend and instigator of all rebellious activities. Born to another prestigious New York family, James understands the pressures of being born into the New York elite. His fantasy, I'm sure you can guess:
I want to live without expectations and rules for as long as I can. And drag Ien along for the ride whenever possible!
Ien Montgomery - Ien is the focus of the book. Second born, he is allowed to persue his passions without the expectations of the family. At least, he was...
Ien's fantasy:
I just want to make music. Beautiful music. With Kiera. Forever. Cliche I know, but it is my only wish. And I will do anything to make it come true!

So there you have it - the boys of Transcend. Be sure to come back tomorrow to meet the girls, and hear about their fantasies and secret wishes.

In the meantime, be sure to enter the giveaway celebrating the release of Transcend. It is not to be missed!

A Week of Secrets Revealed...

Welcome to a very exciting week filled with secrets, mystery and intrigue. Okay, that may be a little over-dramatic, but you get the point.

I am using this week to reveal secrets about me, my upcoming YA psychological thriller, TRANSCEND, and other bookish news...
All culminating with the reveal of the cover for Transcend, by far the BEST cover I have seen yet by CP Designs and Compass Press. I am so dang excited to share it with you!

So, to start things, I thought I'd share a little musical tribute to Webber's Phantom of the Opera, the inspiration behind TRANSCEND. This is a rock version by Nightwish, and captures some of the creeptastic macabre qualities of the story:

Man, I never get tired of the music - the classic and the rock versions! In fact, music has a very special special place in this book. Ien, the main character, is a gifted composer. And Kiera, his beloved - she is a virtuoso violinist. Later this week I'll bring two other videos of the violin music that inspired many scenes in the book.

But today's secret is about me and the writing of this book. This book was originally an exercise is releasing my inner editor, nothing more. Written days and weeks after my mother's death, I was an emotional train wreck. I was incapable of writing anything. Heck, I was pretty much incapable of doing anything other than breathing.

Caught up in the throes of crazy raw emotions, I decided to channel that angst into a series of character studies. I tackled the major emotions of love, anger, revenge, lust, and despair through daily journal entries. It was seriously nothing but word vomit...
How it every became this novel - one that is special to me in ways I can't express, is beyond me. But I am thankful for it.

For those who have come to love the Requiem series, this will be a HUGE departure. Darker and more twisted than that series, this is truly my foray into the macabre.

I can't wait to see what you guys think of it. And another secret - or rather a confession - I am TERRIFIED of what you all will think of it. (breathe in...breathe out. Breathe in...breathe out.)

Okay, enough terrifying confessions for one day...come on back tomorrow to learn a little something about the characters of Transcend and THEIR secrets and fantasies. In the meantime, check out my massive giveaway this week. Enter for a chance to win all sorts of Transcend related sway, including an annotated unbound galley. WOOO HOOO!!!!!!!!!

Finding Your Path

There have been lots of talk on the interwebz about traditional vs indie publishing lately - which one is more "professional", which is the "right" path, and whether or not that is even the right conversation to be having. Rather than add to the already crowded conversation, I thought I would share my personal view on my own path.

I am published with a small press for both nonfiction and fiction (two different houses). Two of my nonfiction book deals were secured with an agent. My fiction deals have all been secured by me with a brand new publishing house. It is true that I tried the agent, big publishing house route first with LACRIMOSA. And again with TRANSCEND. I was unsuccessful with that route. When faced with shelving both novels, I decided to give a small press a try. I had learned from my nonfiction experiences, which have been very successful, I could effectively market my work, so why not try with fiction. And I am thrilled with how things have worked out.

But, it has not been without a lot of heartache. My sales are not as strong as I would like. And I have not been as successful as I had hoped with marketing my books - certainly not as successful as I have been with my nonfiction. Of course, the nonfiction is very niche specific - a niche I am very familiar with. My fiction, um...no. It is a much larger market and as such, harder to achieve recognition. At least for me. I am not like the indie authors selling thousands of copies a week. That is not my path.

About a month ago, I was really frustrated with my path, wondering if I had made the right choice for me. I talked with my friends - those with agents and large publishing houses, those with small presses and my indie friends. I listened to the pros and cons, their triumphs and frustrations, their journeys.

Through that process I discovered a few truths about me and my stories: I do not write "typical" stories - they are dark, emotional rides that some - maybe even many - will not like. I love having a say in what I write, when I release it, my cover art, everything. I love having a partnership with my editors and cover artists. And I love having a partner in general.

And, most important of all - I discovered that I am on the perfect path for me.

You know what else I figured out? I am happiest when I am connecting with readers on some level - through my social networking platform, in person at events, via email. I am also happiest when I get to mentor other up-and-coming writers, especially teens. So, I plan to do more of both. If the sales increase through my efforts, fabulous (I would eventually love to retire from my current profession and be a full time writer, speaker, coach). If not, I won't be crushed. Connecting with readers, watching and hearing their reactions to my stories, that is what sustains me in this crazy business. Being honored with their hunger for more of my writing, that is my inspiration.

I've found my path. And it's the one I'm on right now. Does this mean I would never become agented, go for the deal with the big house. Not at all. I am a firm believer in keeping every option open at all times. For right now, this is the right path. For tomorrow - who knows? I guess I will find out when I get there!

On a lighter note, don't forget to sign up for the Masquerade Blogfest next week. And yes, be sure to stop by EVERY DAY starting on Monday - I am revealing many secrets about me and my stories, hosting a fab giveaway for my books, and....
revealing the cover to TRANSCEND (which is epic, trust me - the best CP designs has done yet!)

Have a fab weekend and see you then!

Never Surrender - Finding the Space Between The Words

I am thrilled to be part of Elana Johnson's NEVER SURRENDER blogfest happening this week. In addition to being one of my best friends, Elana is one of the most generous writers I know - and being able to support her after all she's done for the writing community is truly a joy!

Now, on to my entry. Elana asked us to talk about a time when we refused to give up - a time when surrender was NOT an option.

Hmm....

Immediately I thought of several things I could write about - the time I got stuck on a mountain plateau - literally - and HAD to face my fears and figure out a way off the mountain, or remain lost. Or maybe the time that I continued on a retreat, even though ALL of my friends bailed out, leaving me completely out of my comfort zone. Or pursuing my fiction career, despite shelving novels, getting rejections by the hundreds, and giving up more often than I'd care to admit.

But, after yesterday... I have a new subject for this post.

Yesterday...

You know those moments in life when you are overwhelmed. Not a little overwhelmed - but your chest is heavy from the weight of things bearing down on you and the room is closing in, stealing the air from you lungs overwhelmed???

That was yesterday. Work was too intense. The kids took intense to a whole new level. And you all remember the computer incident (which is costing a small fortune to fix)...
yes, I was overwhelmed.

I wanted to crawl in a hole and hide from the world. I wanted to eat M&Ms and curl up with a book or a movie. I wanted to make the heaviness in my chest dissipate just a little. I wanted room to breathe.

These are the things I wanted.

But they are not the things I needed. Not even close.

I have deadlines pounding down on me. I have stress flowing from every pore. I needed a release. Something big.

I needed to write.

But man, to say that was the last thing I wanted to do is likely an understatement. Still, I know myself well enough to know that I need to pay attention to that wee small voice inside that tells me what I need.

So, after much resistance, I opened up the borrowed laptop, figured out the codes, passwords, etc to be able to access everything I needed to access, and opened a file or two. And I took a breath. Several breaths.

Within moments, I felt it - the space between the words. That moment of peace suspended between all of the things I needed to do, all of the words I needed to write. A precious pause in life itself.
It was in this space that I lingered, breathing in the silence and creating my own sacred spaces inside.
And slowly, I heard the words that needed to be written. And I saw the scenes begging to find a voice.
I pushed forward, finishing the blogging and editing I needed to do.
And I found what I needed...
and let it lead me to what I wanted.

I found peace.

Holy Cow...Potential Disaster Averted

I spend a lot of time online...no A LOT of time! So, I am particularly careful about maintaining my computer's safety. I change my passwords frequently. Keep my protections, firwalls, etc up-to-date. Scan for viruses regularly. Back up my files and save the important things on an external drive....

Okay, I am not as good as I should be about backing everything up. I was. Before. When I'd hear about friends nearly losing their manuscripts. I'd email it to myself nightly, just to make certain it was safe. But I became complacent. And nearly paid too high a price...

This morning I woke with an incredible scene in my thoughts - the revised ending to LIBERA ME. I wrote it in my thoughts, anxious to get a chance to write it in the ms. As is my routine every morning, I got ready for work, and left early, determined to steal an hour to write before the day job. I got my latte, set up at my local starbucks and plugged in the laptop.

As is also typical, my laptop screen was a little wonky (its a technical term..lol) and I wound up doing a hard restart. My computer didn't like that and wanted to "fix" my startup problem. I did a system restore...again, no big deal.

Until my computer restarted. And the entire computer was all in some bizarre symbol ASCII-like font.

OMGOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy cow! Nothing I did fixed the problem. All I could think about were my manuscripts and the fact that I hadn't backed them up in over a month...A MONTH. Bad bad writer!!!!

I have three mss due to editors in the next few weeks. And they are NOT backed up. No. Nononononono......

So, I raced to work. Grabbed my flashdrive. Moved what I HOPED were the right files to the flash (I have a partially eidetic memory) and prayed. Loud. Hard.

Slipping the flash drive into my work computer, I scanned it for viruses. Nothing. (whew...breathing a tad easier)
I scrolled to the folders, and opened each ms - one at a time. They all opened fine. I could read all the files.

WHEW!!! I had lost NOTHING. I would finish edits on time. Didn't need to freak out.

As soon as I knew everything was safe, I immediately backed up the files, emailed them to myself, everything I should be doing nightly.

And everything I WILL DO from now on.

So, words to the wise...backup your files. Diligently.

Oh! And my laptop? It is going to the Geek Squad at lunch. Wish me luck.
Now...on to carve some time to write down that scene....

WWO - An Exciting Year Ahead

First, I just have to thank you all again for the excitement of the week - your comments, emails, tweets, etc, have been inspirational! Some of you have asked "what's next"...well, a lot actually. And I thought I should share it all with you. So, here is a breakdown of what I'm working on for the next year. Be sure to scroll down to the end to see ways you can participate in the upcoming fun.

UPCOMING RELEASES:

Sept - TRANSCEND
 - As you know this is a Phantom of the Opera inspired YA thriller. Vastly different from both the Requiem Series and most other books, this is the story of Ien Montgomery, a young man born into one of New York's wealthiest families. Here is the blurb:
"All seventeen-year-old composer Ien Montgomery desires is to find his muse – someone to ease the burdens of his family’s rigid expectations and the recent death of his older brother. When he meets a beautiful violin-prodigy, Kiera McDougal, his music takes on new life.
Betrayed by those closest to him, Ien discovers that the price for his happiness may be his sanity."
Set during the height of the Gilded Age, this book combines the tragedy of Hamlet with the psychological twists and turns of the Black Swan.

I am releasing the cover to this soon. Wanna help with that? Wanna chance to win the book? Fill out the form at the bottom of this post. I am also planning an EPIC blog tour, so be on the look out for more fun, including a fabulous "masquerade" inspired launch party!

Oct - LIBERA ME - The Requiem series continues with this latest installment. This book, told from Aydan and Zane's POVs, follows the continuing story of Aydan as he faces life as a human. He has found the girl he believes is Nesy, despite her complete lack of memories of that life. No matter how hard he tries to help the memories surface, Aydan can not convince her that she is his beloved. Maybe she isn't? Maybe she is something worse, something he fears. Maybe she is the evil Azza has sent to destroy him. In this story, we see two completely different characters both fighting for a future that is unsure. Only one thing is certain, the line between good and evil has NEVER been so blurred.

The amazing SUPAGURL will be helping with the tour for this book - and it promises to be EXCITING!

Dec - Winter Wonders - I am thrilled to announce that I have a short story in the anthology WINTER WONDERS. This story entitled Illuminati is a companion story to the Requiem series. In this story, we again meet Lorelei (from Lacrimosa) and her mom and learn more about the race of humans, SEERS, Azza is so determined to kill. This is the start of a series I hope to talk more about in the year to come.

For those of you who want more angels and demons, Seers and Jinn, this story and series is definitely for you! Expect to hear a little about some of your favorite Requiem characters too.

The anthology proceeds will all go to support literary - a cause I am passionate about. Be on the lookout for more information in the months to come.

2013 - Early Spring brings the conclusion to the Requiem Series, with a new short (bridging books 2 and 3) and the final novel in the series. Will Nesy and Aydan ultimately find their way to each other? Will Zane find peace? What will happen between Azza and Mikayel? It all comes to a head in this final installments of this series
2013 also brings a new nonfiction book, REDEFINING NORMAL. In this book written for teen girls, I tackle the difficult subjects of resiliency, perfectionism, and the Imposter Syndrome, with tips, stories, and strategies for finding your own authentic self.

Other projects for 2013 that I can't quite talk about include a companion series for the Requiem Series, and more psychological thrillers (my new fav genre to write)

Whew! What an exciting time! Clearly I may be somewhat absent from blogging and the internet as I attempt to meet rather TIGHT deadlines, and craft new stories for the years to come. And thank you again for all of you who read my stories - without you, my work with be nothing more than a few thoughts in my head!

If you want to be part of the fun with these books, reading and reviewing, participating in blog tours, etc, complete this form.

I won't be working on the specific details until late summer, but it's good to start getting info now.

THANKS AGAIN!

And...what are YOU working on?

More to Celebrate!

First, I have to thank you all for the fabulous launch day emails, downloads, reviews and general good will regarding MEA CULPA. Each book in the series - from novelette to novel - has brought these characters more depth than I can express. And your love of the characters and the stories has only added to my excitement as I bring each installment. I can tell already how sad I will be when it all comes to an end in a few more stories...
But that is for another day.

To THANK YOU and continue the celebrations, my amazing publisher, Compass Press, has elected to offer DIES IRAE for FREE for a limited time only (probably a week at the most). Go to Smashwords and download your copy today!

Also, the link for MEA CULPA is live on Smashwords too.

Just my way of saying THANK YOU for the excitement with the series - from Aydan, Nesy, Mikayel, Azza, Zane and Cass...

THANK YOU!

Oh Zane, What You Do To Me....

I am so excited to announce the release of my latest installment in the Requiem Series, MEA CULPA. Mea Culpa follows Zane, Nesy's best friend, as he fights to save her life. But, is he ready to shoulder the cost? Are any of them?

As it was with DIES IRAE, writing MEA CULPA enabled me to give you a glimpse into Zane's world and Zan'es perspective - something that bridges perfectly into the next novel in the series, LIBERA ME, coming in October. That story will further both Aydan and Zane's story as they wrestle with the outcome of Zane's choices presented in MEA CULPA.

As a THANK YOU to all of my readers, Compass Press and I decided to present MEA CULPA at a great price...

FREE

It's up on Smashwords right now. You can also get it here by filling out the form below.

You can also get it on Goodreads as a downloadable ebook.

To keep the party rockin, I have something special planned for tomorrow...so be sure to come back for more exciting news, more "thank yous", and more ways you can help me celebrate!

In the meantime, I really hope you enjoy MEA CULPA and Zane. Thank you for all of the support for the series, Mikayel and Azza, Nesy and Aydan, and Zane.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now - today's character feature - GUNNER:
Gunner is another fabulous character we get to meet in SURRENDER. And like Raine, I LOVE him! I think Gunner is one of the most relate-able characters in the series, and he'll definitely appeal to fans of the series. Just check out Elana's answers to my questions about Gunner:

Gunn longs to travel the world, and he’d love to go down under and see a kangaroo. He’s a fan of salty-and-sweet-in-one snacks, and he’d sit for hours in front of a projection screen watching skateboarding and snowboarding. His favorite band would be Linkin Park.
You can see the other characters answers here - Vi (Tuesday), Jag (Wed), Zenn (Thurs), Raine (Fri)

As I mentioned in the original post, I am giving away 2 copies of REGRET EVERY DAY (Tuesday through Sat - Leave a blog comment daily to be entered) AND a special grand prize that includes one paperback copy of POSSESSION and one hardback copy of SURRENDER! RAINE will never SURRENDER - more celebrations for the SURRENDER Launch!

Welcome to DAY 4 of my SURRENDER Launch tribute. First, the winners of  yesterday's REGRET giveaway are:

LAURA (fuonlyknew)

I didn't pick another as the others who commented have already won a copy - so I added it to the grand prize!! WOOOO HOOOOO

Congrats to everyone who has won so far this week...and keep entering!

And now - today's character feature - RAINE:
Raine is a new character, introduced in SURRENDER. Besides LOVING her name, I LOVE Raine - she is such a compelling character in so many ways. I can't wait until all of you read the book and tell me what you think of her as well....

But first, here is a little more about her based on the questions I asked Elana:

If Raine had been exposed to music her whole life, she’d love “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. She loves that kind of soothing stuff. She’d love to see the White Cliffs of Dover, and she’d give anything to watch Gunner fly in the Olympics. (Okay, maybe that’s not an event—yet.) She’d eat chocolate and caramel until the world ends, she loves it that much.

See why I love her so much?!?

You can see the other characters answers here - Vi (Tuesday), Jag (Wed), Zenn (Thurs).

As I mentioned in the original post, I am giving away 2 copies of REGRET EVERY DAY (Tuesday through Sat - Leave a blog comment daily to be entered) AND a special grand prize that includes one paperback copy of POSSESSION and one hardback copy of SURRENDER! Launch of Awesomeness - Day 3

Welcome to DAY 3 of my SURRENDER Launch tribute. First, the winners of  yesterday's REGRET giveaway are:
Kayeleen
and
Leanne
WOO HOO!!!

And now - today's character feature - ZENN:
So, I'll admit it - Zenn has never been one of my favorite characters. I know Elana probably wants to smack me at this point, but I am just too much of a Jag fan I guess. That and the end of POSSESSION.
All of that said, Zenn would be a very interesting character to write - deep, and very 3 dimensional.

So, as I mentioned in the original post, I asked Elana to tell me a few random things about the characters, including where they'd travel on earth, fav music and food, and a fav Olympic sport (if any). Here is what Elana had to say about Zenn:

Zenn can and does eat his favorite food day in and day out: toast. He loves the stuff—and what’s not to love? He doesn’t care where he is, as long as Vi is nearby. His style of music is a little bit country—the Zac Brown Band, particularly “Colder Weather.” He loves to watch sprints.
Vi's answers where on Tuesday, and Jag's were on Wednesday.

As I mentioned in the original post, I am giving away 2 copies of REGRET EVERY DAY (Tuesday through Sat - Leave a blog comment daily to be entered) AND a special grand prize that includes one paperback copy of POSSESSION and one hardback copy of SURRENDER! Launch of Awesomeness - Day 2

Welcome to DAY 2 of my SURRENDER Launch tribute. First, the winners of  yesterday's REGRET giveaway are:
NATALIE
and
VIVIEN!

CONGRATS to the TO RIDE A PUCA contest winner too - LAURA THOMAS

And now - today's character feature - JAG:
I have to say, I LOVE Jag (but don't tell my Aydan - he is prone to jealousy!). I joke with Elana all the time that Jag was my daughter's first real character crush. And I know there is more than one Jag v Zenn battle waging among readers. So, what did Elana have to say about Jag and his traveling, music and food loves:

Jag’s been all over the Association and his favorite spot is right next to the ocean. He has fond memories of his brothers when he smells the vast water. He doesn’t have much time to worry about sports or music, but if he had to choose, he’d go with beach volleyball and Bon Jovi. He eats whatever he can, wherever he can, but he’d never turn down a strong cup of coffee.
You can check out Vi's answers, and learn more about the questions I asked by clicking here and reading Tuesday's post.

The Launch of AWESOMENESS - Day 1

Once again I get to wish my best bud success with another launch. Few things make me happier then screaming WOO HOO for Elana Johnson and her books.

Today, I get to SCREAM for SURRENDER. Yep, that's right, today is the official launch day for SURRENDER. And I just couldn't let the day go by without some sort of celebration...
so, I am doing a couple of things. Be sure to read the WHOLE post so you can get in on the giveaways...

First, I am bringing each of the main characters from the series to you in a very unique way. See, I asked Elana a few "simple" questions - what are the characters' favorite place to visit in our world, what are their fav Olympic sport, and what music/band would they like? Needless to say, Elana wanted to KILL ME. I think her exact words were "What? They don't live in the same world. They don't what Olympics or bands are... Music is forbidden in Freedom... And there's a huge wall around the city. They don't think of travelling or anything like that..."
But, we talked it through and came up with some AWESOME answers inspired by each of the main characters.

Today I am focusing on Vi. We all know Vi as the angsty, fiesty, somewhat emo-ish heroine from POSSESSION. So, what did Elana tell me about her:

Vi hasn’t had much experience with music, food, sports, or free choice. She’s not sure what she likes and what she doesn’t. She’d order her eggs fifteen different ways until she found the type she liked best. Her mom used to sing old musicals to her, so that’s her music of choice, and she is quite fond of salted almonds.

In addition to the daily character intros, I am giving away 2 copies of REGRET EVERY DAY (Tuesday through Sat - Leave a blog comment daily to be entered) AND a special grand prize that includes one paperback copy of POSSESSION and one hardback copy of SURRENDER! Told ya it would be AWESOME. Just enter the rafflecopter form below to get your daily entry for the REGRET contest and the giveaway. WOO HOO!!!

Inspiration with Heather McCorkle (and a giveaway)

I am so excited to be part of Heather McCorkle's celebration of her latest book, TO RIDE A PUCA. I was fortunate enough to read the story early, and let me tell you this is one sexy and exciting read. You can see my review here.

Anyway, today I thought I'd bring a new interview with Heather. Be sure to read it through as she is giving away a book she likes on her blog (I am pretty partial to it too ;) ) and I will be giving away a digital copy of TO RIDE A PUCA at the end of the blog post. WOO HOO!!! But first, a little interview with Heather:

Christine: What inspired this story?

Heather: Promise not to call the people in the white coats? I’m not telling you until you promise. Okay, I was taking a bath (hey what can I say, something about water inspires me) and I may or may not have fallen asleep (that works to keep the white coats away, right?) when I heard a young woman’s voice. She wanted to tell me her story. I remember hearing her tell it as I watched  a horrible scene unfold; burning villages, a great battle, an entire race of people fighting for their way of life (k, I was most likely asleep at this point. ;). When I awoke, I immediately grabbed a notebook and pen and started jotting things down. I knew I HAD to tell this woman’s tale.

Christine: How long did this novel take you to write?

Heather: Surprisingly, a few years. I was desperate to do the woman’s story justice so I let it percolate and did an extensive amount of research to make sure I got things right. I also started learning to speak Irish, which you’ll find sprinkled throughout the novel (and um, no, it is not just English with an accent. It used to be called Gaelic but the Irish don’t like to call it that anymore). I have a long ways to go to become fluent, but I hope to be there someday!

Christine: What are you doing for today's tour stops?
Heather: Well, today I’m dropping by your blog to celebrate the release of my young adult historical fantasy about the last of the druids in ancient Ireland, To Ride A Puca. Though parts of it were heartbreaking to write, this one was a labor of love that will always hold a special place in my heart. Before I get to the goodies I brought, here is a bit about the book:

Invaders are coming to take what isn't theirs, again.
Neala wants to stand and fight for her homeland, but as one of the last druids, she may be standing alone.
Persecuted, hunted down, forced to live in obscurity, the druids have all but given up. Can the determination of a girl who has barely come into her power bring them together? Or, just when she finally finds her place among her kind, will they end up losing a homeland their very magic is tied to?
Disclaimer: This novel contains some violence and difficult subject matter. It is recommended for mature YA and up.

Available in eBook and hardback at B&NAmazonThe Book Depository and other retail sites.

Now - the goodies:

I’ll be giving away great prizes, a new one, every week for the next two weeks. This week I’m thrilled to be giving away a signed hardback of LACRIMOSA by Christine Fonseca. This book is unique among angel stories and once you read it, you will never look at angels and demons the same again. It is one of my favorite books, trust me you’ll love it! The contest will be open until June 10th, the winner to be announced on the 11th. Stop by my blog to enter.
Thanks Heather! I am THRILLED that you loved LACRIMOSA. You already know how much I loved TO RIDE A PUCA.
Okay, now it's time for my special giveaway! Complete the Rafflecopter form below and you could win a copy of TO RIDE A PUCA for yourself. I will be giving away 1 ebook. Contest ends tomorrow at midnight.
And be sure to come back tomorrow for another exciting giveaway. What a fun week!
