A Month Filled With Gratitude

Happy 11/30 everyone. I, for one, can't believe the month is over. It seemed to go by so fast. Before you know it we will be working on goals for the new year.

As most of you know, I focused on gratitude for the month. It was a profound experience for me. After a month of really struggling with regards to many things in my life, the gratitude experiment shifted my focus and opened my heart. I went back to meditating. I started rolling with life's punches. It was a beautiful journey.
This week has brought both the anniversary of my mother's death and changes in my personal life (nothing bad...just change). With that, the new-found gratitude taking root in my heart was challenged. Some days, I fared well. And others...others were profoundly challenging. At first this shift rattled me. But, I woke this morning remembering that this is life...we have our ups and we have our downs.
And this is writing, too....
We will have periods of great joy, great productivity. And there wil…

Anyway, theclass is a webinar for a few hours every night, making the week busier than usual, even for me! As a result, the blogging will be sparse.

LACRIMOSA IS ON SALE! Only .99

Happy Black Friday and shopping madness weekend! My fabulous publisher, Compass Press, has dropped the price on LACRIMOSA (for Kindle) to .99 for THIS WEEKEND ONLY (Extended from today only! EEP)!

What is Lacrimosa, you ask? It's the first full-length novel of the Requiem series:

As if casting out demons isn't hard enough, five-hundred-year-old Nesy has to masquerade as a teenage girl to do it. Nesy is the best of the Sentinals. She never makes mistakes, never hesitates, never gets emotionally involved. Until she meets Aydan. He is evil incarnate; a fallen angel that feeds off the souls of others. Everything Nesy is supposed to hate. But she can't, because he's also the love of her former life as a human girl-a life that ended too soon, tying her to emotions she was never supposed to feel. Now Nesy must choose between doing her duty-damning Aydan to the fiery depths of hell-or saving him, and condemning herself. And her choice may cost her, and Celestium, far more than …

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!! On this day of celebration, may we all come together in the spirit of gratitude. I thought, before I shared the winner of yesterday's giveaway, I would share this great quote about the season:
"Gratitude ... goes beyond the "mine" and "thine" and claims the truth that all of life is a pure gift. In the past I always thought of gratitude as a spontaneous response to the awareness of gifts received, but now I realize that gratitude can also be lived as a discipline. The discipline of gratitude is the explicit effort to acknowledge that all I am and have is given to me as a gift of love, a gift to be celebrated with joy." ~ Henri J. M. Nouwen May the day be filled with grace and gratitude of the season as you celebrate time with family and friends.
And now, yesterday's winner:

ANGELA BROWN
CONGRATS!!

HAPPY INDIEgiving! I will not be posting again until next week as I am taking some time with family, friends, and the eve…

Back on the Chain: Location, Location, Location

For some reason, whenever I think of the blog chain, my mind goes to the word "chain gang"...and from there to Les Miserable. I know, I am very strange.

Anyway, since I know have Les Miserable on my brain I thought I'd share this fabulouso trailer for the upcoming movie:

I am SO DARN EXCITED for this.

Okay, back to the Blog Chain. This round was started by Alyson who asked the following:

How important is setting when crafting a story? How do you choose where your stories take place? How do you research setting? Do you have to have been somewhere in order to write about it? What are some memorable settings from books you've read?
I love this question. I am a HUGE setting person. I wasn't always that way, but my editor is a settings-nut, so now I am too. I carefully pick where my stories take place based on a few things:
Atmosphere
My knowledge of the place (and yes, I will go research places in person when possible)
Time
Story-themes

Setting is something that, for me…

Epic Weekend Ahead!

Happy Friday!!! In 9 short hours I start my Thanksgiving Holiday break: 9 glorious days of family, fun, writing and one of my favorite non-writing activities: COOKING! I just love preparing the Holiday meal for Thanksgiving; love the prep, the planning, entertaining, and the pleasant sounds from friends and family as the consume the feast. So excited!!!

This weekend also holds some fun and epic thinks of it's own -

Gratitude Challenge

Hi all! I have been a bad blogger - ignoring this poor blog all week. I missed a Blog Chain post, forgot to annouce a contest and yea...
Just spaced out. I've been doing that a lot lately; the by-product over a little too much on my plate. As it has been all year.
One thing I have not lost sight of is my yearly tradition of using November to cultivate gratitude in many forms. It has been a great experience for me as I clean up some of my "stuff", work on my own gratitude and share a sense of Thanksgiving with others...
Which leads me to this post.
I decided to up-the-ante in my own practice of gratitude, including more than my daily journalling, meditation practices and facebook posts. I have decided to take a few moments between now and Thanksgiving next week to individually thank everyone in my contact list. That's write, I am emailing my contacts and reaching out to let them know they are appreciated.
And I am encouraging you to do the same. Remind the people in y…

Libera Me....the Paperback Edition!!!

Hi everyone! Happy Monday. And, more importantly, Happy Anniversary to my amazing Husband of 24 years....yep, you heard it right. We've been married for 24 fabulous years. And yes, we will be celebrating. But later. Today I'm off...and I get to spend time in my writing cave (Hubby's gift to me).
In fact, the entire weekend was uber fabulous! Check it out:

Writing cave days (and yes, I am BEYOND excited about Book #3 in the series - you are going to LOVE it!)A chill in the airChristmas movies and hot cocoa (I know, I know, it's early...don't judge)And just a TON of fun.
One of the best things this weekend....getting a sneak peak of the cover for Dominus. EPIC! But...I can not share yet. Instead, I get to share the anticipated book jacket for the paperback of Libera Me available 11/19. And let me tell you, this is a very special edition of the book - complete with special bonus material:
Excerpts from Aydan's journal.

The entire journal will be coming in the month…

Thank you my friends....

I was feeling very nestalgic yesterday as I was working on the final installment for the Requiem series, thinking about my friendships that have changed and left over the past year. See, I have been through a lot of change this year. Nothing bad...just change. And it has thrown me off my game a bit. I don't make close friends easily. So when I do, they are very precious to me. And when then change, I don't always adjust well - or gracefully. As I was thinking and musing about this, the Glee version of one of my favorite songs from Wicked came on - For Good.

WOW! The words were so profound and matched exactly what I was thinking. Just check out these lyrics: ( from metro lyrics - WICKED - FOR GOOD LYRICS)
